Festivities celebrating 100 years of Bauhaus opened with a week long opening festival in Berlin in January 2019. Bettina Wagner-Bergelt’s curation concept made the Akademie der Künste a flamboyant place of present and future and freed the infamous design theory from dust. With this in mind, anschlaege.de designed a campaign for the opening festival.
Always in search of relevance for present and future artistic practice, international artists and companies creatively and critically reflected upon Bauhaus’ concepts and questions concerning dance, theatre, music and technical innovation. We made use of the Bauhaus anniversaries corporate identies’ basic geometrical forms and decomposed them into fragments, only to put them back together as more extreme versions of the format. These newly emerging formats are being used to transport editorial contents.
The euro-scale color palette was modified. Yellow and magenta colors were replaced with neon versions for a maximum of radiance in printed media. A high amount of skill and craftsmanship was required from working with printers to back photographs with brilliancy, without trying to aim for them to have a superhuman effect.
